I think 16 is the maximum age for the girl parts, like earning stars.

Otherwise it's pretty much boring and not worth it IMO.

I suspect that there are numerous adults who join the club and play both the child and the parent role just to earn stars and free stuff. I find that a little creepy -- inventing a child personna and then pretending to be it -- but you can certainly get far more in free merchandise (purchased with stars) than the $20 membership fee. My daughter got the club jacket for girls with her stars, and that retails for like 46 or 48 bucks.

I too think it's a little weird about inventing a child persona- which is why I haven't joined the club.

But as long as you only chatted with other adult's child personas (found here on HB) it's not as creepy.
Now if you pretend to be a child and talk with other children, as a child, that just totally ruins all the parental controls AG has tried to put into place.

AG needs a club for the over 16s. Something that will focus on the historical and creative part of AG.

I joined, but don't have children. For me I wanted it to get Elizabeth early. It would be great to earn stars to help me with club purchases, but I don't think I am going the creepy-route and inventing children. I won't get the club again this year. For me it wasn't really worth it.

I was wondering if any grown ups had joined the American Girl Fan Club, and if they thought it was worthwhile? I think there are a lot of cute things available, and if I could get them for just stars...well, it might be worth it.

So, any grown up members? Are you even allowed to join if you're over 18?

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">But if you renew, it's only $10 with no shipping and you get the $10 back on your next purchase. Then if they do the club-members-purchase-first thing for Emily, you are set.

We have 3 memberships, all of which I just renewed with the $10 code and then applied the $30 in code discounts to Jess' Swing. We would have renewed anyway, the girls' friends at school also belong so they message each other.

If you create a child's persona and then talk to children pretending to be that child... isn't that just like being an adult predator... even if your intentions are pure?

I'm sorry but if you have to create a kid for the club, which I think is fine, then you shouldn't interact with other club members... if you do... that is very very wrong... and very very scary to think about who else is inventing children for the wrong reasons.

I agree that you shouldn't interact with the kids in the club. That is very creepy. I know some of them are quite young. My DD is in the club and has only purchased a couple of charms with her stars - but both of us like doing the projects and playing the games.

It's too bad they don't make an adult version of this geared towards adult collectors! I know I would join!
